“Some years down the pike we’re going to get the real solution which is going to be a combination of death panels and sales taxes.” – Obama Cheerleader, economist Paul Krugman, 2010

July 10, 2015—For once, a Paul Krugman prediction could be coming to fruition.

Indeed, the essence of Obamacare is meeting the bottom line. And the bottom line is meeting the cost of Obamacare, not the quality of or freedom regarding your healthcare (we’ve covered the economic idiocies of Obamacare – and the remedy here).

And how is the cost of Obamacare to be met? As the great Austrian economist Robert Wenzel notes: “by killing patients off.”

The Los Angeles Times is out this week with an article “Obama administration revives plan once criticized as ‘death panels’” which reports:

“Six years after end-of-life planning nearly derailed development of the Affordable Care Act amid charges of ‘death panels,’ the Obama administration has revived a proposal to reimburse physicians for talking with their Medicare patients about how patients want to be cared for as they near death… Despite the growing consensus that better end-of-life planning is needed, the new regulation threatens to revive the ‘death panel’ campaign that Republicans successfully used to demonize the federal health law as it was being debated…”

On a parallel note, The Wall Street Journal reports in “End-of-Life Talk Proposed as New Medicare Benefit”:

“The federal government is proposing to pay health-care providers for talking to Medicare beneficiaries about end-of-life care after mounting calls for a better approach to conversations about dying that can both save costs and improve patient care… The rule proposed Wednesday would reimburse doctors, nurse practitioners and some others in the health industry for discussions about end-of-life care, which was championed last year in a report by the Institute of Medicine, an independent advisory body. Efforts to provide compensation to providers who hold such consultations ran into opposition in 2009, after mostly Republican opponents of what would become the Affordable Care Act said the law would lead to ‘death panels’ tasked with seeking out cost savings by rationing care. A provision to pay physicians for such end-of-life counseling was stripped from the final bill.”

In other words, the federal government proposes using your tax dollars to pay healthcare providers to encourage people — including yourself one day — to die so the government can meet its bottom line. Or as Wenzel says, it’s about funding healthcare providers to ask patients, “What parameters do you want to set where we kill you?”

Shocked? Hey, anything to make “The Un-Affordable Affordable Care Act” otherwise known as Obamacare a little less Unaffordable, right?
